Frequently asked questions
What is the highest point in the United States?
Denali in Alaska, at 20,310 ft (6,191 m), from U.S. Geological Survey news release: New Elevation for Nation's Highest Peak (2015-09-02).
Which state has the lowest high point?
Florida: Britton Hill reaches only 345 ft (USGS Elevations and Distances).
How many state high points are above 14,000 ft?
4: Denali (Alaska), Mount Whitney (California), Mount Elbert (Colorado), Mount Rainier (Washington).
Why do some figures differ from older lists?
Older lists use the USGS Elevations and Distances table (revised 2001), measured on the NGVD 29 datum. Where a newer survey exists we show it instead, either an official figure we cite directly or the NAVD 88 height of the NOAA National Geodetic Survey mark on the summit, and note the older value on the state page.
