What the site provides
Free elevation lookups, calculators and place data for general information. Results come from third-party public datasets and standard formulas, described on the methodology page. They can contain errors and are not a survey; read the disclaimer.
Acceptable use
- Use the tools for personal, educational or business purposes in a normal browser session.
- Do not run automated bulk queries against our
/api/endpoints, try to get around rate limits, or disrupt the service. For bulk work, use the USGS and Census services directly; they are free. - Do not copy the site's pages wholesale or present them as your own.
Data and credits
U.S. government data (USGS, Census Bureau, FAA, NOAA) is in the public domain. Other datasets keep their own licenses and credit requirements, listed on the methodology page; if you reuse values from this site, credit the original source. The site's own text, design and code remain ours.
Links and ads
We link to other sites and show ads from Google. We do not control those sites or the ads and are not responsible for them.
No warranty; limit of liability
The site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using, or being unable to use, the site or its results.
